Ardmore Elementary is piloting an afterschool FabLab where 4th and 5th grade students can come together and explore Making, 3D printing, and Coding.
Making: The ‘making’ portion of FabLab will consist of projects, either initiated by the teacher or the student that allow a student to design, problem solve, test and build.
Digital Fabrication: Here, students will learn how to use TinkerCad, an online design program. Students will apply a vast array of math concepts in TinkerCad to design objects to print on our 3D printer.
Coding: Students will also be given the opportunity to learn how to code in Scratch. We will also explore Lego Robotics and learn how to program a robot using Lego’s smart technology.

FabLab arcade
The FabLab maker kids got a chance to show off their cardboard arcades at Ardmore Reading Night. Wow, what a great night! We had a great showing--I was so impressed!
Digital fabrication
Students are learning how to navigate Tinkercad so they will be able to create a 'thing' we can print on our 3D printer. Below are pictures of some of the 'things' they have created, so far, as well as a video of the printer making one of their creations. We are learning from our mistakes as much as our successes.
Caine's arcade
In the 'Making' portion of FabLab, our students watched the inspirational video, Caine's Arcade, and decided to make their own cardboard arcade games. They are coming up with some far-out, awesome games that they will share with students and parents at Reading Night during March is Reading Month! Stay tuned and watch the video below.
