Our classroom theme is Maker Faire.  Maker Faire is an event created by Make magazine to "celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset".  Maker Faire aligns nicely with a STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) as it brings together inventors, creators, engineers, crafters, scientists and makers.  We plan to take every possible opportunity make our classroom a 'makerspace' where we can use our new found knowledge to solve real-world problems through inquiry-based projects.

A makerspace encourages students to use their creativity, imagination and perseverance in a problem-solving atmosphere.  Students are encouraged to be risk takers and to utilize their analytical skills.  We will learn that failure is part of the learning process and it's....OK.  More important than succeeding is the ability to persevere.

We will embark on a range of inter-disciplinary projects that span our curriculum.  By giving students the power to explore, inquire, question, create, invent, our learning becomes meaningful and contagious.  I am excited to take this next step with our fifth graders!
